Our Green Policy

Below is a brief overview of what we've done at AKJ and what we plan to do in the future to help cut our carbon footprint and remain green as a company.

What We Have Done

  • We have installed multi-functional devices (for faxing, printing and photocopying) in our offices that will reduce energy and paper usage.
  • We have an email printing policy that we try to encourage email recipients to adhere to by including the following passage at the base of our emails - ‘Please consider the environment before printing this email.’
  • We encourage all staff to consider how their actions have consequences on the environment. Therefore we have introduced energy saving schemes for example we encourage all staff to shut down their computers and monitors each evening instead of leaving them on standby.
  • We recycle all office waste paper and cardboard and cans.
  • We recycle printer cartridges through our printing supplier.
  • We take our responsibilities as a software provider very seriously. We dispose of our older computers and monitors through a charity which then reconditions the units and sends them abroad to third world countries giving these redundant machines a new lease of life and a chance to help educate others less fortunate than ourselves.
  • We recycle our fluorescent light tubes and batteries used on our premises.
  • We utilise a hot water urn on a timer so as to reduce energy used for hot beverages internally.
  • We do not own a fleet of cars. We maintain a travel policy of encouraging public transport via the train system. We believe that this is a more environmentally friendly form of transport and promote this form of travel as and when we can.
  • We have visible signs throughout our offices to encourage people to turn off any lights, heaters and air con that is not required. We also have a ‘lights off’ policy which requests the last person to leave to ensure all lights are switched out.
  • We have introduced localised lighting for staff who work late so that offices need not be illuminated by strip lighting on a continual basis.
  • We encourage the use of local suppliers in order to reduce unnecessary travel and to increase local trade.
  • We have set up an internal Green Group who discuss ways in which we can improve our operations in an environmentally friendly manner.

What We Plan To Do

  • We continue to work alongside new technologies in order to improve communication throughout the company. With the use of sophisticated video conferencing systems we will be able limit the amount of travel required by our staff. Meetings will be much more time and energy efficient as the time travelling and energy used will be cut as personal contact will be enabled through a simple internet connection.
  • We plan to roll out a recycled paper bill run for all our customers that require it and will encourage all our customers to move to online billing which cuts out a great deal of paper usage.
We hope to install filtered water in all our offices to replace the energy absorbing water coolers.
