BT Wholesale Release New DEDS Platform

BT Wholesale (BTW) are in the process of upgrading the DEDS (Data Exchange Distribution System) platform which will have an impact on the downloading of DEDS CDRs.

BTW customers currently download DEDS CDRs using FTP via an ISDN line.  The upgrade involves switching from FTP/ISDN access to FTP Secure (FTPS) access which should result in faster, more reliable and less expensive data downloads.

BTW are hoping to terminate “old” DEDS in September 2010 but customers can switch to “new” DEDS as soon as BTW accept their application.   It is not possible for customers to have simultaneous access to both “old” and “new” DEDS so a migration date will need to be agreed on or before the switch off date.

AKJ have taken part in a trial of the service with BTW and are already set up to download DEDS CDRs via the FTPS site on behalf of our Bureau clients. AKJ will be looking to make the switch in September to enable BTW to address any issues which may be discovered in the next few weeks. There is no immediate action for Bureau customers to take unless they require access to the DEDS data from their own network when access to “old” DEDS is terminated.  If access is required then the following steps will need to be undertaken:

  • Approach your BTW account manager to arrange access to “new” DEDS
  • Complete application form
  • Install and configure suitable FTPS client
  • Test connectivity to “new” DEDS Test system
  • Test connectivity to “new” DEDS Live system
  • Agree a date with BTW and AKJ to disable access to “old” DEDS and enable access to “new” DEDS

Rental customers are advised to review their own internal processes for data collection and to liaise with their BTW account manager as required.

If there are any queries about the move to the FTPS version of DEDS and AKJs processes to deal with this, please do not hesitate to contact the Bureau Billing team or your Account Manager.
